Teacher Centres are dedicated community learning centres that belong to the provincial departments of education. They are staffed by the relevant provincial department, while the Vodacom Foundation renovates them, equips them and connects them to the Internet. The Vodacom Foundation works with the National Department of Education to ensure the Teacher Centres are aligned to national policy on ICT in education, and to the needs and strategy of the education system.
Teacher Centres are an important community resource, and now don’t just train teachers, but are also used to train unemployed youth, though the Vodacom Youth Academy. By the end of 2016 there will be 91 Teacher Centres throughout the country.
